Relationships: Why mothers experience varying love from their children

All women possess a powerful maternal instinct; that limitless and solid motherly love. Becoming a mother should be the happiest moment in any woman’s life, babies are supposed to provide the mother with total fulfilment. Amidst such expectations, it is not a surprise that mothers are often closer to their children than fathers. This is natural, but as to why they experience varying love from their children is a different phenomenon altogether. At various stages of growth, we tend to react in expressing love to our mothers depending on the environment. Sometimes it is because of the comfort we need in a frightening milieu or when in need of something. The greater the mother’s love, the more the child will return this love, even when the mother takes tough disciplinary measures to punish. It is because of the mother’s tender care that she may later call the child for comfort while explaining that she did punish for a good cause. This normally happens at the early childhood stage. Teenagers have a lot of reasons justifying why they express their love differently. To some, it could be peer pressure where peers tend to influence their attitudes to elders. They reason that they need to have some freedom without the guidance of parents or any elder. Fathers and mothers prepare children for life differently, which also contributes to the degree of love they express towards them. Some children express their love depending on past experiences. Children who never had enough time with the mothers during childhood are likely to act and behave differently. They are not used to the mother’s care and love. Teenagers who experienced child abuse especially during childhood are more likely to have a bias towards their mothers. They think that they are of no-use any more since they were neglected earlier, yet their mothers could have saved their miserable situation. At the advanced stage of growth, children get to realise the importance of care and love from their mothers. They understand all the punitive measures mothers take, are for the betterment of their future. They often ask for forgiveness. However, such adjustment in the way of conduct by the youth is effected only if at the early stage, utmost care was emphasised. Most children who are neglected during their tender age are likely to go astray. The variation of love from children to mothers entirely depends on the parental care and love given to young ones.
