Producer Dominique Ngabonziza, professionally known as Dr. Nganji, has dropped a new album dubbed ‘Overdoze’. Premiered on 22 February, the album comes as a second part of the Overdoze mixtape released in 2021, with special appearances of only the young generation making music in Rwanda. Speaking to The New Times, the renowned producer and one of the pioneers of Kinytrap sub-genre said that Overdoze album was produced to showcase the artistic journey of most musicians in the country. “Overdoze is an amount of drug that is more than what should be taken once, and I used this word to show how music has many problems to the extent where most artistes feel overdozed,” Ngaji noted. Nganji further said that this project is an individual record, a compilation of his favorite pieces of music that feature many different musicians from Rwanda “It’s exciting because not only am I giving fans the best of me on each track as a producer, I am giving them the sight of their favorite artistes in a completely different zone,” he added. Dr.Nganji who is also a recording engineer and entrepreneur, said that each song on the project has a unique production process and collaborations, as artistes are diverse. Overdoze features 20 Rwandan artistes including Bushali, B-Threy, Icenova, Angel Mutoni, White Monkey, Nillan YNB, Bruce the First among many others that are driving the Rwandan music industry. Most tracks on the tape include Saka, Wigize Ibiki, Uko Mbaho, Kacoka among others. Nganji is credited to be the pioneer of a subgenre of trap music called Kinyatrap, a local variation of Trap Music, in which local artistes rap in Kinyarwanda over trap melodies. Some of his past light works include Bushali's debut album ‘Nyiramubande’ and After Doze, an album that he produced in 2019.
