Dear Editor, I think the failure of the Kenyan Police to protect people is not deliberate but rather circumstantial. They are simply ill-trained and that is probably why they have continued to kill innocent civilians who are fighting for their absolute rights by staging peaceful demonstrations in protest against the current illegitimate government. The continued senseless ethnic clashes which have brought about lawlessness and untold suffering of ordinary Kenyans is evidence that the Police cannot handle the situation. It is backward and illogical for police to use live bullets to disperse crowds. It is a pity that Kenya, which used to be seen as a beacon of hope in the East African region, has finally hit rough weather. The political turmoil in Kenya has negatively affected business in the Great Lakes Region. There is need therefore for Kenya to find a lasting solution to the problem. I therefore recommend that Kenyan army must boldly come out of slumber and take charge of their country’s destiny. Military action against leaders like Mwai Kibaki and others like Robert Mugabe is a justifiable option in situations of this nature. KANOMBE
