Varsity students form network on population and dev’t

Students from all universities in the country, over the weekend set up a network that will advocate for social and economic development. The association known as ‘Students Network on Population and Development’ (SNDP), was officially launched in Huye District, Southern Province, by Dr. Jean Damascene Ntawukurilyayo, the Deputy-Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies. Ntawukuriryayo, who is also the President of the Rwandan Parliamentarians’ Network on Population and Development (RPRPD) accompanied by other legislators on the committee of RPRPD said that the massive increase of the Rwandan population does not match the country’s development. “We want the students in this association to sensitize the public on how to develop themselves by ensuring that they use family planning methods,” he added. “The massive use of family planning methods among Rwandans will contribute to the country’s tremendous economic and social development which is among the country’s vision 2020 target”. Senator Wellars Gasamagera, remarked that Rwandans should change their mindset of producing many children as a sign of manpower adding that they should produce reasonable number of children who will match with the country’s development. Aime Valens Tuyisenge, the President of SNDP, said that they are aware of the massive increase of the population and are going to sensitise the public on how they can apply family planning methods. “Our association is committed to promoting social and economic development by ensuring the citizens are aware of the challenges associated with the increase of the population,” said Tuyisenge, who is a student of Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) Ends
