When presenters turn into musicians

I am listening to radio and the presenter plays his own song and concludes, “Yeah that is something new from Callipso, I am still coming.” I at first deem this a mistake, but a friend corrects me, that most Kigali radio presenters actually play their songs on daily basis. I am irritated and decide to change the station. The next presenter plays a workmate’s song. He says, “Enjoy something good from KNC featuring….”Well, Callipso is already famous for comedy, and radio service. This time, his style which he prefers to call ‘hip-hop’ is as funny as his comedy. So I lend ear to his lyrics in the end. The next day I realize that most of the songs on ‘top hits’ on local charts are also dominated by presenters- regardless of their message, quality or production. Why should the music played on local radio be dominated by radio presenters’ songs? Could they be the most talented or the most exposed to airplay? Some of these radio presenters have ‘sick’ voices by-the-way. Their song writing skills are not attractive either. This reminds me of an incidence where some local artists complained of radio presenters who demanded candies before promoting their songs. In the long-run, selfish radio presenters will discourage the development of local music, instead of promoting it. Ends
