National championship leagues of basketball, handball and volleyball are set to start in early March. Fixtures of the three disciplines are still being set by the respective federations and will be available later this month. The volleyball championship will start March 1 while the basketball and handball tournaments are scheduled to start before March 10. We are still setting the fixtures but the opening match will take place in Amahoro courts, said Gertrude Kubwimana, Executive Secretary of the volleyball federation, FRVB. This year’s volleyball championship should be tougher than ever after attracting more clubs. The female league has been boosted by five clubs while the men’s league will see two more clubs chasing for the title. These clubs have taken the number to 26. Although no new clubs have registered in the basketball and handball disciplines, the federations have vowed to make the leagues more competitive.Ends
