Bitok wary of Kenya threat in Zone 5

NATIONAL volleyball team coach Paul Bitok has singled out Kenya as Rwanda’s biggest threat in the Zone 5 Volleyball Championship scheduled to run from March 23-30 in Kigali. The week-long tournament, which also doubles as a qualifier for the All Africa Games scheduled for September in Maputo, Mozambique, will also attract Ethiopia, Uganda, Sudan, Djibouti, Tanzania, Somalia and Eritrea. With Egypt assured of a direct ticket to Maputo after being crowned champions in the 9th All Africa Games back in 2007, Bitok believes Kenya is the only serious impediment to Rwanda’s hopes of taking part in the All Africa Games. “Kenya will be our biggest obstacle but we are working on how to exploit their weakness. They are weak in reception so we have to make the most of our serves,” the former Kenyan international noted. Bitok, who has been working with a provisional squad of 19 players, is expected to trim it down to 15 by the end of this week. The team will then play friendlies against APR and KVC as part of their build-up to the Zone 5 event.
