Since the outbreak of covid-19 pandemic, artistes and other players in the music industry have been using music podcasts to introduce homemade sounds to masses easily. Podcasts, stemming from the words iPod and broadcast, were originally created in 2004. However, it hasn’t been until late that the Rwandan music culture has truly grabbed the reins of this stream of communication. With the ever so changing internet channeling various forms of media, the local industry is constantly changing and growing along. The New Times highlights some music podcasts that are driving the industry in the right path. Get Paid Podcast The godfather of drill music in Rwanda, Pro Zed who is also a producer and founder of Loud Sound Music, recently started a weekly podcast dubbed ‘Get Paid’ that breaks down different topics regarding the Rwandan music industry. Alongside his co-hosts, most members of the Loud Sound Music Label, he is known to have lengthy and deep conversations with artists and executives. From Ish Kevin to Ririmba, the podcast is making Rwandan music a topic to discuss for many. It is posted every week on Loud Sound’s YouTube channel. The Don Podcast The most popular podcast currently trending in Rwanda is the Don Podcast hosted by Bad Rama, founder and owner of The Mane Record label, and Rafiki, one of a few Rwandan musicians that produced classics in the past. Bad Rama and his co-host Rafiki have truly taken the podcast game to another level in Rwanda, from digging deep into the Tuff Gang feud, to hosting different players in the creative sector including old school rappers. Feed Your Focus Podcast For the true music nerds, Feed Your Focus Podcast reveals the real back stories behind some of the biggest names in the Rwandan music industry. Hosted by US based Rwandan rapper Jay Pac, the podcast was created by The Creative Genius, a group of young Rwandan artists based in the US. Feed Your Focus podcast started trending in Rwanda after hosting Ruti Joel before he released his debut album ‘Musomandera’ and performed some unreleased tracks of the album on the podcast.
