Rwanda climb Fifa rankings

RWANDA has risen two places to 133 in the latest Fifa World rankings, despite their abysmal showing at the just ended Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Sudan. Sellas Tetteh’s side were knocked out at the group stage after successive defeats against Senegal (0-2), Tunisia (1-3) and Angola (1-2).Amavubi also moved up two places to 34 on the African continent. Neighbors Uganda are still the top ranked Cecafa team in 86th position. Sudan stands in 106 spot while Tanzania and Kenya are ranked 121 and 128 respectively. Rwanda’s Group H opponents for the 2012 Nations Cup qualifiers Ivory Coast and Benin are in 25th and 80th while Burundi is further back in 144th position. Africa’s top ranked team is Ghana in 16th place.World Cup-winner Spain leads an unchanged all-European top three from the Netherlands and Germany. Argentina is up one place to 4 and Brazil slips to 5. Argentina was rewarded for a 2-1 victory over Portugal in a friendly, while Brazil lost 1-0 to France. Croatia climbs one to 8, trading places with Portugal. Greece completes the top 10. Italy rose two place to 11 and Asian champions Japan are also up two places to 15.
