Transport cooperative launched

The president of the Commuter Taxi Association (ATRACO), is urging commercial taxi operators to consider maximizing their profits as the association positions itself to move from a non profit association to a cooperative. Ludovic Twahirwa Dodo, was, this week, launching Rubavu Transport Cooperative (RTC), as part of the campaign to establish Atraco as a profit-oriented cooperative. “Now that we are transforming into a cooperative, we must be profit-oriented by monitoring our resources,” he said.Dodo advised commuter taxi drivers to always be accountable so the cooperative could succeed,. Atraco is set to be transformed into a cooperative at the district levels after which it will be transformed into a union. “Committee members must also ensure that extravagance is restricted and good customer care promoted,” added Dodo. So far, Rubavu has an Executive Committee with over 180 members who are required to pay Rwf 100,000 subscription fee. Atraco officially has 12,00 members. Similar transport cooperatives have been formed in Musanze and Gicumbi districts and the exercise is set to be taken to other parts of the country. Ends
