PIH donates iron sheets to vulnerable families

Kayonza - Partners in Health-Inshuti mubuzima (PIH) donated 600 iron sheets to 40 vulnerable families, in Rwinkwavu, in Kayonza district, yesterday. This was in line with supporting families to eradicate grass-thatched houses. Antoinette Habinshuti, PIH Deputy Country Director told The New Times that PIH addresses the dual pandemic of poverty and diseases, aligning with Rwanda’s philosophy and policies. “At its root, our mission is both medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone”.She added that PIH Intends to support 100 families with roofing material, doors and windows by end of the fiscal year 2011. “We responded to the call of the district of Kayonza to help Rwinkwavu Sector in its Nyakatsi eradication project.” He said. Emmanuel Kamanzi, PIH Project Manager in the district, noted that decent housing was essential for healthy living.He cited pneumonia, as one of the diseases which could be prevented with decent housing. PIH is a US Non-profit Organisation that works in partnership with the government to improve livelihood in rural areas. It opened its doors in 2005 and operates in the districts of Kayonza, Burera and Kirehe. Ends
