Ndayisaba elected Kigali City Mayor

KIGALI - The former Governor of the Southern Province, Fidele Ndayisaba, is Kigali City’s new Mayor. In elections held, yesterday at Petite Stade Remera, Ndayisaba garnered 169 votes against Patricia Mukangarambe’s 20. Earlier, a third contender for the Mayoral post, Alexander Semarinyota, withdrew his candidature. Ndayisaba takes over from Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira, who was recently appointed Governor of the Eastern Province. The voters were members of Advisory Council s from all the three districts in Kigali City. It was also from these councillors that the Kigali City Advisory Council and its Executive Committee was elected. Alphonse Nizeyimana, got 159 votes to retain his post of Vice Mayor in charge of finance and economic development after beating two contenders. Hope Tumukunde Gasatura, was elected Vice Mayor in charge of Social Affairs with 139 votes beating Jacqueline Kabano who got 45 votes. The newly elected members of District Advisory Council were also sworn. The Minister of Local of Government, James Musoni, commended the National Electoral Commission for not abusing the trust given to them by the citizens. He urged the newly elected Kigali City leaders to work hard and take the country’s capital to even greater heights. “It is an investment and business city that has portrayed the image of the country, so you need to work hard to improve the image,” he said.
