Rwanda’s Muyongwe has for the second time won the 2008 African Taste of Harvest contest with 93.41 points. Among the five samples presented for the contest from each country (Zambia,Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda,Burundi, Malawi,Kenya, Ethiopia),Rwanda’s coffee scored highest in all the samples to win the contest .Of the five samples presented for the competition, Rwanda ‘s Muyongwe scored highest at 93.41 points, Ngoma MIG Lot .91.72,Muganza Koakaka 90.75 ,Kanzu 90.47 and UCAR Kamonyi 90 to put Rwanda on the top. Alfred Mutebwa, the project manager OCIR Café said he was very proud of the award and attributed the winning to the high quality of coffee produced in Rwanda, we won the contest because we concentrate on quality .We produce the best coffee regionally. Winning this competition is prestigious because the coffee samples are tested by world experts in the field of coffee who have a standardised way of determining the finest coffee. The Taste of Harvest competition held in Uganda for the first time, is part of a series of activities organised as part of the ongoing East African Fine Coffees Association (EAFCA) conference and exhibition at the Kampala Serena Hotel. Rwanda coffee is well known on the international market. It is unfortunate that this time we won’t be able to auction our coffee at this exhibition because we sold all our coffee. Normally most delegates from Europe want to buy coffee to take home for prestige. Among the five top were: Ethiopian’s Ali Hussein coffee which came second in the competition with 90.8 points; Burundi’s Bwayi Washing Station that came third with 86.91, Kenya’s Socfinaf fourth with 86.75 and Uganda’s Mt Elgon washed Arabica 5020 came fifth with 85.5 points.Ends
