British envoy visits Police HQ

KIGALI - The British High Commissioner to Rwanda, Benedict Llewellyn-Jones, OBE, yesterday afternoon paid a courtesy call to the Commissioner General of Police (CGP), Emmanuel K Gasana, at Police Head Quarters in Kacyiru. The CGP thanked the High Commissioner for the role various British institutions have played in professionalizing Police force. Llewellyn-Jones thanked the Gasana for the warm welcome and promised to strengthen the existing cooperation between the United Kingdom and Rwanda National Police. The Police benefits from capacity building and professional trainings from Bramshill Police Staff College and Teesside University of the United Kingdom. A couple of senior police officers have taken part in Senior Command courses and International Commanders program at Bramshill Police Staff College. In addition, eleven officers have obtained Masters Degrees in Criminal Investigations and Criminology from Teesside University in the UK. The United Kingdom also sent trainers to Rwanda to train Police officers from Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, and Somalia in command, management and criminal intelligence. Gasana reiterated that RNP will continue to learn from best practices of the British Police, especially now that Rwanda is a member of the Commonwealth. He said the existing cooperation has improved the performance of RNP in community policing and other areas of preventing and combating crime. Llewellyn-Jones took office January this year, succeeding Nicholas Cannon, OBE. Ends
