Over Rwf 3.75b earmarked for model villages

KARONGI- By the end of next financial year, it is estimated that over Rwf 3.75billion will have been invested in building four modern fully developed villages that will act as models for all the others countrywide. The villages will be located in Karongi District (Western province), Rwamagana and Kayonza border (Eastern province), Kamonyi (Southern province) and Musanze in the North. According to Augustin Kampayana, the rural settlement task force chairman in the Ministry of Local government, this is part of government’s integrated development program. “This year, each province and Kigali city will get about 350million and next year the funding will increase slightly,” Kampayana said. He explained that the development package has 11 components; including education, agriculture, habitat and commercial infrastructure, health and hospitality programs.While officiating at the launch of the program in Karongi, yesterday, the Provincial Executive Secretary, Paul Jabo, called for collective efforts from the population. “You have been selected to be examples to the over 3million Rwandans who live in this province therefore you should fully cooperate with the local leaders to achieve the dream,” Jabo said told residents. “This planned development is meant for your own benefit so you should all apply collective efforts in order to make it,” he added. He challenged the residents to always discuss personal problems to find internal solutions, saying it’s a long term measure of establishing and achieving sustainable economic and social development. “Sometimes there is doubt about some of the proposed structures in the Master Plan, otherwise if everything is possible, then the future looks very bright,” Anatoli Munywentwari, a resident observed.
