SOUTHERN PROVINCE NYAMAGABE — The Burundian Senate President Gervais Rufyikiri on Wednesday asked Burundian refugees in Rwanda to return home saying their country is now pacified. The president who had led a team of Burundi legislators, told representatives of Burundi refugees at Kigeme refugee camp, that calm has returned to their country and there was no reason to remain in exile. From 1993 peace has returned to Burundi; you need to come and join others in the development of the country, Rufyikiri said. He noted that there were isolated cases of people still holding illegal arms and using them in robbery and to commit other forms of atrocities but the government was handling the situation. One Ndayizeye who represented the refugees expressed reservations saying they are still scared of insecurity in Burundi, but Rufyikiri dismissed their fears as based on sheer propaganda. Earlier, the group had visited Murambi Genocide Memorial Site to pay their respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide. At the site, the Senate President said all nations should draw lesson from the 1994 atrocities in Rwanda to prevent a similar mayhem from occurring anywhere. This, he said call for fight against ethnic divisions. Governor Fidèl Ndayisaba, district and security officials welcomed the law makers. Ends
