Confederation Cup Sunday Harar Beer v Rayon Sport Rwanda’s Rayon Sport FC heads to Ethiopia this morning ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup first leg tie against Harar Beer on Sunday in Addis Ababa. The 23-man squad leaves aboard Ethiopian Airlines and is expected to hold its first training session at Addis Ababa national football stadium later in the afternoon. According to Rayon Sport’s secretary Farouk Nduhumwe, there’s big hope in the team. Every player on the team is determined and we hope to get a result that we want, Nduhumwe said. Rayon’s influential midfielder Kalisa Kase is however not traveling to Addis Ababa after being left out of the team by Raoul Shungu (head coach). It is said that Kase has not responded well to the club’s training sessions. The Blues are in upbeat mood ahead of Sunday’s clash and know that a good result in Addis Ababa will increase their chances of getting to the second round when they host the Ethiopians on March 1-2 in the return leg. Rayon’s last continental show came in 2006 when the club was ejected in the second round by Egypt’s Al Ittihad Al-Iskandary by a 3-1 goal aggregate. The blues had earlier seen off Ethiopia’s Awassa City by a 4-0 goal aggregate. Last year, Rayon sports missed out after finishing third in the Primus national football league giving chance to Atraco to make their maiden appearance in the continental championship.
