NORTHERN PROVINCE MUSANZE — Muslims in Rwanda have been urged to counsel their children on reproductive health and ways of preventing HIV/AIDS. Addressing the Muslim community who turned out to mark the Family Day in Musanze on Tuesday, Sheikh Said Bakare the assistant Mufti of Rwanda said parents should break the social-cultural norms on reproductive health and spare time to guide the youth on ways of conduct instead of leaving the children to find out on their own. The celebrations were organised by the Rwanda Muslim Association-AMUR together with CNLS geared towards urging parents to help children prevent Aids. Research carried out in 2005 which was presented at the function; indicates that five percent of the girls between 15-19 years are sexually active before they turn 15 years while 11percent of the boys in the same age group are also sexually active by that age.
