Gasabo taxpayers urged to be compliant

The Vice Mayor of Kigali City in charge of Economic Development, Alphonse Nzeyimana, has called upon taxpayers in Gasabo District to always pay their taxes on time to avoid penalties. Nzeyimana made the call on Thursday during a function in Kinyinya Sector to launch Tax Week in Gasabo District.Nzeyimana said that there is a huge improvement in terms of tax collection around Kigali. He noted that in 2006, Rwf6.5billion was collected and Rwf8.5billions in 2010. “We have made tremendous leaps in as far as tax collection is concerned in the three districts of Kigali City, but I encourage everyone here to advise all Rwandans to pay taxes because that is the only way we shall stop financially depending on foreign aid,” he said. The taxpayers were also briefed on the types of taxes, which include property tax, rental income tax, and land lease tax, among others. Gerald Zirimwabagabo who spoke on behalf of taxpayers in Gasabo District called upon the management of the district to improve customer care among its tax collectors as some of them take long to issue tax receipts while others offer poor services to taxpayers. The Mayor of Gasabo District, Willy Ndizeye, told The Sunday Times that during the tax week, the district will offer house-to-house services where they will be issuing tax receipts to all taxpayers in the district and provide them with any advice they need. He also said that they will also register new taxpayers and update their old data base. He also revealed that the district recruit more tax collectors. Ends
