School of Finance and Banking (SFB) or Mburabuturo is among the recognized learning centers in Rwanda. The institute is in Gikondo, a city suburb- Nyenyeri –Kigali city road in Kicukiro District. The school is said to have existed prior to October 1990 liberation war with preceding names of College Official de Kigali (COK), Technique Institute Supperel Defince Publique (ADJOINT) and at one time the institute had a section of law studies. At the present, the institute has taken on a sound and good name of “School of Finance and Banking. The school of finance is now recognized as a university after its accreditation in 2006 after the Rwandan government put forward the policy of setting up the self-governing management institutions. The centre is whispered to be a global institute because of its natural history of registering students from all walks of life. The institute is well acknowledged for enhancing education in many disciplines and it offers two learning options; it has evening programs for the workers and the full time learning students. After Mburabuturo acquiring its university title, the centre has not only set up edifying facilities such as a decent library, computer rooms, auditorium hall, hostels, and lecture rooms, but also an excellent study environment. One of the continuing students, Ujaama Ngarambe Abia says that the institute offers first-class courses which may make students obtain useful academic qualifications in future. The institution also has a high-quality health check for its students. The institute also has students’ leadership made up of Gild president, his vice, ministers, and secretary that ensures that students are comfortable. Professor Krishna Govender is the current rector for the school who succeded Dr. Ndagijimana. The centre had recently welcomed first year students totaling to one thousand. Prof. Govender told The New Times that students at this school are encouraged to work hard in order to succeed. He also advised that students at all times to fight HIV/Aids, avoid peer groups, fight genocide ideology and uphold their freedom. Amanda Kayumba, the vice guild president expressed efforts the student’s association puts in to ensure that students, lecturers and the university council deliver the expected results. The School of Finance and Banking currently offers four- year degree courses in Accounting, Finance, and Human Resource Management and Management. Others courses include ACCA, Business communication and short studies in different domains. In 2003, a centre of MBA programme (project management, banking and finance) was introduced under Uzziel Ndagijimana, the former Rector, now the Vice Rector at Butare university. After four years, the number of alumnae in MBA programs has grown. Today, the Graduates and continuing students make 287 heads. In 2006, Mburabuturo also obtained a large number of management students from Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). Since then, KIST offers management courses no more. Ends
