Rwanda is a world model - Global Evidence

Global Evidence and Policy, an organization that aims at reducing newborn deaths in countries with high-mortality rates has commended Rwanda’s solid effort towards achieving health related MDGs. This organization operates under Save the Children Programme. The recognition follows the recent ranking of Rwanda as one of the leading countries in allocating high domestic budget to the health sector where it out competed the developed countries. In an email, Dr Joy Lawn, the Director of Global Evidence and Policy, said that Rwanda is gradually becoming a world model and has started winning global admiration in this regard. “A number of countries are now looking at Rwanda as an exemplary country that has emerged from a difficult time to become a leader in many ways,” she said. “The speaker from Nigeria’s MDG Office praised Rwanda at the launch of the Saving Newborn Lives in Nigeria report last week on the country’s performance-based financing approach.” She added that since the increment of government’s budgetary allocation to health, the country’s health indicator has improved in various ways. Lawn appealed to African leaders to be accountable to their people to emulate Rwanda and implement all the commitments and plans to improve people’s health. Ends
