Newly-elected Rwanda School Sports Federation (FRSS) president Luke Karemangingo has vowed to dedicate his time and efforts in talent detection in schools as far as sports development from grassroots is concerned. Karemangingo has embarked on his four-year term as FRSS new president after he was elected to lead the federation, replacing Father Innocent Gatete who has been at the helm for the past 25 years. He was voted as an unopposed candidate for the top position during elections that took place during the federation’s extraordinary general assembly held Friday, February 10. “I’m very happy to be elected as the new president, I always had sport development in my responsibilities. When you’re in education, supporting sports is a part of your job,” Karemangingo said. “Our main objective as the new committee is to detect talents countrywide and providing those talents with facilities and equipment that can help them develop quickly. We’ll work with the private sector and government organizations to achieve our goals,” he added. Karemangingo, who is the head teacher of Kayonza-based school Groupe Scolaire de Gahini, has been in the education profession for the past two decades. Besides GS Gahini, he also served as head teacher of FAWE Girls School in 2005 before he became the assistant principal at Nyamata High School. He later moved to Groupe Scolaire Gahini in 2007 as the school headmaster, a position he still holds in the present. In 2009, Karemangingo introduced the Netball game at the school which already had one of the country’s best performing teams in Volleyball. Karemangingo was assisted by Pr. Jean d'Amour Majyambere and Ernest Sibomana who were elected first and second vice-presidents. Meanwhile, Father Gatete was elected president of the General Assembly, the highest level of the federation’s Executive Committee. He will be assisted by Aaron Rurangirwa who was serving as the technical director of the federation.
