My high school memories

For everyone out there that went to high school, I am sure you have the best memories you could share with anyone. Even if the year was 1960, 80 or 90 you surely have the best tale you can split. Personally, my high school days were awesome I can say. I was in a boy’s single school, fun was the order of the day and night, and it was one of the best schools in the region. If you have had your education in a single sex school, then you know what I am talking about. My first memorable day is when I joined secondary school. I was young, anyone would mistake me to be a primary chap and stubborn was my middle name. Despite my school being the best in the region, stuff like teasing was a school ritual that every new student had to go through. I remember being forced to drink water in a cup using a table fork and empty the cup in three minutes. Can you imagine! I doubt anyone can do this! As if that was not enough, they pressured the whole senior one class to dance to the tune of the news on radio. What amused me most is that music would pass, then come the news hour and it’s when we would be forced to dance for the whole dormitory. We had no choice but to dance to the news reports. Then there was the big so called social dance or leaver’s rock commonly known as “Sosh”. Trust me this is the most remembered event in any high school, even those who have not had it yet lament that they won’t miss when it’s their time. In my school, “Sosh” was of course a turning point for everyone. Obviously another girl’s single school would be invited to my school to spice up the day. Music, a great meal were all expected. Smartness, good English vocabulary, a sharp appetite were the basic requirements of the day. I was dressed to kill, the suit-check, neck tie-check, a matching black shoe-check; precisely a GUCCI. All was in place. Shortly the awaited guests (girls) arrived smartly dressed; make up was all over the place, perfumes of all kind replaced the breathing air in school. Soon they were led to the dancing hall. And now it was time to choose my date for the day. What a task it was... Funny enough was the procedure to choose a date; the Cinderella style of picking a shoe. The girls would leave one of her shoes at the hall entrance for the boys to hustle and choose the best classy shoe; the girl whose shoe you chose was going to be your date for the day. Fortunately for me, I chose a beautiful shoe of a beautiful girl. Sheila was the name. She was slightly taller than me, but I didn’t mind. The day went as great as I expected, but not until the worst MC in this world spoke. “Boys, could everyone carry their date to show them the love?” the MC said. My mates were happy about the whole fad. My heart was now racing, questions ran through my mind and my heart was at war. How am I going to carry her? I gained confidence after a couple of thoughts and it was my turn to carry “my Sheila”. As I swept my hands to carry her from the ground, guess what happened… I fell down to the ground with her!
