Amavubi regroup for CHAN

THE first batch of Amavubi players entered camp yesterday ahead of next month’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in Khartoum, Sudan. Head Coach Sellas Tetteh has summoned 29 players but only 18 were available yesterday owing to continental assignments as well as the on-going Caf U-17 championship in Rwanda. The first batch included; Evariste Mutuyimana (Police), Patrick Rutayisire (AS Kigali), Emery Mvuyekure (Police), Clement Mutunzi (Police), Didier Kapet (APR), Abuba Sibomana (Rayon), Bienfait Kabanda (Etincelles), Fabrice Twagizimana (Etincelles), Hussein Sibomana (SC Kiyovu), Dady Birori (SC Kiyovu), Peter Kagabo (Rayon Sport), Abed Mulenda (Rayon Sport), Kipson Atuheire (APR), Aphrodice Mungwarareba (Police), Solomon Nirisarike (Sec academy), Jamal Mwiseneza (Rayon Sport), Jean Shyaka (SC Kiyovu) and Aphrodice Hategekimana (Rayon Sport). This group will be joined by APR players, who are currently preparing for their preliminary Orange Champions League clash with Tunisia’s Club Africain. The players in question include Jean Luc Ndayishimiye a.k.a Bakame, Ismail Nshutiyamagara, Eric Gasana, Donatien Tuyizere, Albert Ngabo, Jean Baptiste Mugiraneza a.k.a Migi, Haruna Niyonzima, Jean Claude Iranzi and Emmanuel Sebanani a.k.a Crespo. Junior Wasps duo Emery Bayisenge and Faustin Usengimana’s availability depends on how well Rwanda plays in the Caf U-17 competition. It has also been confirmed that Amavubi will not be travelling to Cairo for a training camp as had been earlier planned. According to Tetteh, the camp was cancelled after APR and Etincelles were reluctant to release their players due to their continental engagements. Etincelles is also gearing up for the Orange Confederation Cup. For the CHAN competition, Rwanda is drawn in Group D alongside Tunisia, Angola and Senegal. Hosts Sudan, Gabon, Uganda and Algeria make up Group A; Ghana, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Niger are in Group B while Group C pits holders DRC against Cameroon, Ivory Coast and Mali.The 16-nation tournament, reserved for players featuring in their domestic leagues, will run from February 4-25. Rwanda qualified after edging second round opponents Tanzania 1-0 on aggregate and will open their campaign on February 7 against Senegal. DRC won the inaugural event held last year in Ivory Coast.
