SFB Masters programme hits snag The school of Finance and Banking (SFB) Masters programme offered in partnership with the Maastricht school of Management (MSM) has been delayed after applicants failed the TOEFEL and GMAT entry exam. According to the rector of SFB Prof.Ried E Whitlock, the standard required by Maastricht, their European Partner is what is used to as away of ensuring quality. “All candidates failed the entry exams except one, who only passed one of the two exams,” said the Rector. 25 hospitals receive ambulances The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Tuesday distributed 25 Ambulances to various hospitals country wide in its efforts to take health services closer to the population. The vehicles estimated at Rfw 943m, were handed over by Minister of Health, Dr.Richard Sezibera, in a ceremony held at Camp Kigali. According to Sezibera, the criteria used in selecting the benefiting hospitals included the proximity of the health facility to the nearest available ambulance services and the number of people served by the particular Hospital. The Minister urged the hospital Directors to develop a business plan that will help maintain the ambulances without depending on government. Kigali Central Prison to relocate this year The Kigali Central Prison, commonly known as ‘1930’, will, this year, relocate to Butamwa, Nyarugenge District, to pave way for development of the land where it is currently located. The Minister of Internal Security, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana, on Thursday said that the relocation was supposed to take place last year, but was delayed due to some irregularities. The new site covers 50 hectors and according to the minister, the expropriation of residents from this area cost over Rwf 220m. The new facility will also accommodate inmates from Remera Prison in Kimironko. “The new prison, by all means, has to be completed before the last quarter of this year,” the Minister said. School closed for lack of teachers A private secondary school in Musanze District -ACETI Imanzi, has been shut down following a report from the Ministry of Education that indicated it lacked qualified teachers and did not meet the minimum standards. The school that had 380 students opened in 2008 as an institution for preparing private candidates to sit for national examinations. It later started admitting students from senior four to six. According to the report; the school lacked the necessary infrastructure including labs and a library. It also lacked proper ventilation in the classrooms. RRA cracks down on foreign registered vehicles Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) has embarked on a crackdown on cars with foreign registered number plates in Rubavu town. According to Eugene Torero, the Deputy Commissioner General at RRA, over 95 percent of the vehicles in Rubavu town have Congolese number plates as a way of evading taxes. “We are carrying out an operation against all foreign vehicles that are not properly registered, whether owned by Rwandese or foreigners,” Torero said. “Some of these vehicles once they come here disguised as foreign they turn round and start doing business activities such as taxi hire which is unfair to Rwandan registered vehicles,” Torero explained. Over 20,000 children recover from malnutrition in Bugesera Over 20,000 children have fully recovered from malnutrition in Bugesera District; a World Food Programme (WFP) official has said.Abdoulaye Balde, WFP’s Country Director, revealed this while handing over two cows worth Rwf1.3m to Rilima Nutrition Centre in Bugesera District. According to Balde, the cows will produce milk to feed children and breast feeding mothers. According to WFP officials, the centre serves over 37,000 people from Rilima and Juru sectors. WFP provides monthly fortified supplementary food to malnourished children below five years of age and malnourished pregnant or lactating women. Ends
