This week, James Karuhanga, The New Times news editor, joins the host of ‘The Long Form with Sanny Ntayombya’ to discuss whether or not additional East African forces will be able to help pacify the restive eastern DR Congo. Presently, 900 Kenyan troops have already been deployed. On Friday, February 9, defense chiefs from the East African Community (EAC) partner states directed the immediate deployment of troops from countries yet to join the regional force in Goma, the capital of North Kivu, eastern DR Congo. The regional military chiefs met in Nairobi in the presence of the EAC Secretariat following the bloc’s Heads of State’s directive on February 4 to have forces on the ground based on a timeline agreed on by the security chiefs.
