NATASHA’S CHRONICLES : What a memorable holiday!

Thanks to the woman of my life, my mama of course! I spent the past two and a half weeks on one of the most wonderful vacations I’ve ever had in ‘the land of a thousand drums’ or ‘land of another rap’… or if you still haven’t clicked, Uganda! No doubt I do miss it but of course it feels good to be home! You can bet I’m more than glad to be back to my chronicles where I speak my mind to you—I just couldn’t wait! I did take lots of time analyzing, observing, commenting and generally learning while away and it’s amazing what one can gain from a few days of thinking out of daily routine, enjoying each day just as it comes and goes, thanking God for it and hoping the next will be better. Generally, putting your heart to making each moment memorable is more than fruitful. Life in Uganda is obviously different from life in Rwanda because of many factors like difference in size, historical background, colonial background, political atmosphere and the general zeal for life too. There are many things I thought we ought to learn from her and there are definitely many things I realized we ought to be thankful for when at home. For example, when I compare both countries to the other East African countries, I couldn’t appreciate the organization and cleanliness of Rwanda any more than I do now! And probably some of us have been complaining that some roads are being repaired while in some neighbourhoods, no one seems to care. We should appreciate the fact that at least some are being repaired! Two things I couldn’t help but notice that have brought Uganda a head in development, were the creativity and the risk taking quality the people have. People have a sense of flexibility when it comes to doing business, investments or even how to spend their time and money. They are not afraid to try out new things and work with new people. They are willing to do anything they can to become better at what they do and this is evident in the frenzy of activity on a given day within the city. Something I believe we can borrow a leaf from. For those who are feeling stressed from work, people or responsibilities and haven’t travelled in a long time, you do need to take time off to relax in mind and body. It will help you to rejuvenate. I can be witness that it’s as healthy as eating vegetables and fruits! If all you do is drive to work, file papers as you write some more and go home and start all over again, get a break from your car and walk, or do something for a change.
