Do something … words are not enough

This morning on my way to work, I got into a bus and sat next to a smart lady who cuddled to a guy next to her—it must have been her boyfriend. A little thought crossed my mind when this guy made a sweet comment to his girlfriend: He smiled and said, ‘you look gorgeous and so smart’ and she replied, ‘thank you.’ In my mind I thought that his comment was so obvious. Words are important but when a man decides to say too much and acts less, then they are missing the point. That comment would have been much appreciated if it was accompanied by a peck on her cheek or a little hug—a little public display of attraction wouldn’t hurt. Actions always speak louder than words. A guy will always look at his girlfriend and give comments like; ‘you look good’, ‘you are smart’, and lots of sweet nothings will be said but, I’m just wondering, why not take a step ahead and think about what this young lady has gone through to package herself into a Cinderella or if I must say in our Kinyarwanda version, a ‘Kezarella’! Do not get me wrong; yes, comments are motivating and they make a lady feel great because a small word from the right guy can brighten up her day however, they still need a little bit of spicing up. Tell her she looks nice, when she wears that jewelry you gave her…how about that? This implies that you are partly responsible for her looking good and gorgeous. This only gives her reason to smile genuinely, tell her you love her and show it; sometimes these love things have to be tangible. This is not about being materialistic. Just take time off and think about it. If your loved one always says they love and appreciate you without anything done to show for it, then there is a problem. Gifts are a love language that only emphasize the words of encouragement and other love languages. This cuts across male and female alike. Women love to love and be loved, so why not act, why wait for already made things. Be man enough; if you want to see her smart be the reason behind her smartness. Women, if you want to see him looking elegant, sure be the reason behind his elegancy. Besides, behind every successful man there is a woman; the vice versa is also true. jacqueuwera@yahoo.com
