The US government has warned its citizens in Kenya of a possible terror attack in the capital Nairobi. Through its embassy in Nairobi, the US flagged high traffic areas frequented by foreigners and tourists in Kenya's capital, Nairobi, and elsewhere in the country as targets for the terror groups. The embassy asked US citizens to exercise vigilance at locations frequented by tourists and foreigners, to review their personal security plans, be conscious of their surroundings and to monitor local media for updates. “Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, schools, police stations, places of worship and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists,” the US statement said. The US embassy acknowledged security measures that the Kenyan government put in place, including counterterrorism patrols. This comes barely a month after the US Embassy in Tanzania issued a security alert to its citizens over what it termed as possible attack. But the government of Tanzania allayed fears of impending terrorist attack threats in the country’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, and other areas. In addition, the police urged citizens to report whenever they find something suspicious or when they doubt someone due to his or her behaviour.
