APR FC Women Football Club won’t take part at the 2023 women’s Peace Cup after announcing their withdrawal from the competition. The club was not part of teams that featured in the 2023 Peace Cup draw that took place Wednesday at football governing body (Ferwafa)’s headquarters. Club spokesperson Toni Kabanda told Times Sports that the decision aims to focus on other competitions that the women’s team is participating in. “We’ve decided not to participate in this year’s Peace Cup tournament to let our ladies focus on other competitions they’re taking part in,” Kabanda said in a telephone interview. “As you may know, most of our players are still students, so they’re playing in Inter-Schools and under-17 competitions plus the league matches,” he added. A total of 12 teams from women’s second division will play the Peace Cup preliminary first round. The six winning teams will progress to the second preliminary round after which three winners will join the 13 topflight division teams in the round of 16. AS Kigali WFC will be looking to defend the title they won last season after beating Kamonyi WFC 4-0 in the final that took place at Kigali Stadium on June 28, 2022.
