Kagame receives Global Peace Award President Paul Kagame, on Thursday, received the 2010 Global Peace and Unity Services to Humanity Award, in recognition of his role in spearheading the cause of justice, peace, reconciliation and unity of the Rwandan people. The Award was handed over by Mohamed Ali the Chairman of, UK based, Global Peace & Unity Foundation. Denmark arrests Genocide suspect Danish authorities, on Wednesday, arrested one of the most wanted Genocide fugitives, Emmanuel Mbarushimana and immediately arraigned him before court which remanded him for four weeks pending investigation. According to the Danish authorities, Mbarushimana, 48, was denied bail on the basis of his holding multiple identities, which motivated the conclusion that he may evade justice if released.Mbarushimana is accused of being the mastermind of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi particularly in the former Butare prefecture, now in the Southern Province. 94 Police officers to be sacked over graft The Rwanda National Police is in the process of dismissing 94 police officers over corruption-related crimes, the Deputy Commissioner General of Police, Stanley Nsabimana, revealed this at the closure of the anti-corruption week, DCG Nsabimana said that the officers were caught after a police disciplinary committee carried out an inside anti-corruption operation. Speaking to the press, Tito Rutaremera, the Ombudsman, hailed the police for taking strong measures to combat corruption within the sector and called upon all Rwandans to act as whistleblowers whenever they cite any act of corruption. Rwanda-Uganda officials discuss border security Local leaders in Nyagatare District, on Wednesday, held a cross-border security meeting with a delegation of Ugandan officials from the western districts of Ntungamo and Kabale. The meeting mainly focused on security issues along the border and cross-border trade. According to Nyagatare district officials, the meeting was a follow up of the joint permanent commission meeting that was held in Mbarara, Uganda between Nyagatare district officials and their Ugandan counterparts.Nyagatare Mayor, Fred Atuhe Sabiiti said that the meeting was timely and would cement peace and security between the sister countries. The two countries share a lot in common, he said, which necessitates regular meetings over issues of common interest. Rwanda, Sweden sign $23m grant agreement The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, John Rwangombwa, and the head of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), Richard Bomboma, on Thursday signed a financing agreement to support two programmes aimed at reducing poverty. The two programmes to benefit from the grant are land registration and Vision 2020 Umurenge Programme (VUP).According to the agreement, VUP was allocated US$13.8 million while the land tenure regularization project within the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources got US$9.4m. Sweden will channel the funds directly to these programmes. Kirehe residents get over 300 hybrid cows Kirehe Community-based Watershed Management Project (KWAMP, on Wednesday, donated 333 Friesian cows worth over Rwf200 million to needy people in Kirehe District.The cows were donated under the auspices of the One Cow per Poor Family Programme. Janvier Gasasira, the coordinator of KWAMP, said the donation is in line with transformation from subsistence to commercial agriculture. Ends
