Rwanda’s long distance icon Dieudonne Disi finally made his trip to the World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan over the weekend. Disi who is expected to arrive in Osaka later today boarded Kenya Airways on Saturday with stopovers in Nairobi and Bombay. Speaking to Times Sport before his departure, Disi was hopeful to carry the national flag high when he takes stage on Thursday. “At last am convinced of taking part in the World Championship because I have been worried for past one week after missing my scheduled flight to Osaka,” “I have been training regularly in preparation for the event. Though it is a World champion event, am confident of proving my worthy,” Disi said. Disi who was supposed to link up with his fellow team mate Angelline Nyiransabimana before the pair’s departure to Japan arrived in the country one week earlier as he was supposed to jet out last Monday. It is reported that Disi who was coming from his training base in Holland was told by the national athletics federation that he is to depart for Osaka on August 20th. Since then Disi has been pressing the Kenyan Airways to be booked on other flights. Nyiransabimana who departed aboard a Kenya Airways plane arrived in Osaka four days before the championship which began over the weekend. Disi and Nyiransabimana are expected to compete in the 5000m race alongside some of the world’s top athletes. Unlike Nyiransabimana who is making her first appearance at this level, the 27-year old Disi can’t wait to improve on his 17th spot finish in the 10000m race in Helsinki back in 2005. The 11th edition of the World Athletics Championships runs from August 25-September 3.Ends
