Rwandans in Arusha to celebrate Kagame’s victory

KAMPALA - Rwandans living in Tanzania’s Northern town of Arusha will, on Friday, hold festivities in honour of the re-election of President Paul Kagame as Head of State for another seven-year term. In an interview with The New Times yesterday, the vice president of the Rwanda Diaspora in Arusha, Noun Bandyandora, said the celebrations will also be in recognition of the peace and development the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) has ushered into the country. “It is an idea that we have been having for some time and we thought we should rejoice together for the victory RPF and all Rwandans registered,” said Bandyandora. “The development in the country has been made possible by the RPF, and we are happy that Rwandans voted for continuity of peace, stability and prosperity.” Over 500 Rwandans live and work in Arusha with most of them employed by either the East African Community secretariat, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) or the African Court of Peoples Rights. Bandyandora added that during the ceremony, the Diaspora community will take time off to bid farewell to their colleagues whose terms of employment in Arusha will have ended, and welcome new members to the community.
