Musanze leaders urge residents to cooperate in fighting crime

Police and local authorities have called for close cooperation between residents and security organs in order to fight crimes in Musanze town. The call was made, last week, at a security meeting where a police report indicated that Musanze district had recorded more crimes in the last two months, compared to other districts in the province. Musanze had up to 151 criminal cases, followed by Gicumbi with 78 and Rulindo (14), the least number. The meeting was chaired by Governor, Aime Bosenibamwe, together with the RDF division commander, Gen. Alex Kagame, Regional Police Commander CSP. Peter Hodari, and attended by religious leaders and district mayors. The crimes reported included violence related crimes, assault, robbery and gender based violence. The crimes were blamed on insufficient night patrols. ”Whereas the level of crime rate has drastically reduced in the area, we are asking residents to be vigilant on security risks within their areas. We request the religious leaders to partner in this crime prevention campaign,’’ Bosenibamwe said. On the eradication of grass thatched houses, Bosenibamwe instructed district mayors to design a road map, categorize people still living in grass thatched houses- in order to speed up the modern housing drive. A report presented before the meeting indicates there are over 9000 families still living in grass thatched houses in the Northern Province. The Gicumbi Mayor, Bonane Nyangezi expressed concern that suspects in petty crimes were being arrested and released by police without prosecution. Ends
