Society Debate: To choose or not to choose: Football Vs Relationship

It’s just a 90 minutes game If someone dumped me because I didn’t give them the so called ‘quality time’ since I was enjoying a game of Manchester United versus Arsenal then I would question the planet he comes from and brand him a ‘control freak’. Football is considered a game that unites people regardless of their race, wealth, tribe or character; the list is endless. Hey wait a minute, come to think about it, there is time for everything. I’m certainly going to spend the rest of my life with you therefore 90 minutes probably plus five minutes of added time wouldn’t hurt. I don’t see the reason why you would create a mountain out of an anthill. Instead of ‘beefing’, why not join me on the couch and select a team to support perhaps the evening would end up into a romantic argument on who plays who better. In fact, the best way to get what you want from your spouse is when they are watching their favourite team winning. This advice goes to the ladies, try switching off the Television and make your wish. It will certainly be granted since he does not want to miss out on even a single corner kick. But don’t try it when his team is losing because you don’t want to see your jaws drop. Come to think of it, did we meet at a football pitch? As he was making his moves, telling you sweet nothings, did we have a referee to blow the whistle so we could begin the dating game? Why at this time of the relationship must you dump me over a football game? A relationship is built on several factors such as respect, care, mutual understanding, trust and the soul of it being love; so a mere football match should not overshadow these qualities but instead bring spouses closer. Instead of arguing and fighting why not go to the next room and try reading a novel or newspaper until the game comes to an end. How about watching a movie on your laptop if you can’t stand your eyes glued on a screen with an ongoing football match? The possibilities of saving a relationship are at large if the basis of conflict is a football game.
