KFH,K on course for int’l accreditation

KIGALI - King Faisal Hospital Kigali (KFH,K) has started a final assessment to determine whether the quality of their services fully adhere to international standards, the acting CEO, Juliet Mbabazi, has announced. The first assessment was conducted in February, where the hospital scored 86% and received the pre-accreditation for their remarkable achievement. For the final assessment, the hospital is looking to score 4 percent or more to attain the 90 percent required for the full accreditation. If successful, KFH,K will be the first hospital in the region to attain the accreditation within two years (Period between the two surveys) The survey that is being conducted by the Council for Health Services Accreditation of South Africa (COHASASA) will run for five days. The team of surveyors are expected to study the hospital’s documents and evidence of improvement in service delivery to determine whether KFH,K is meeting international health care standards. “The quality improvement and accreditation program includes both internal and external assessments as well as surveys against pre-established internationally accepted standards,” reads a statement from the hospital. Dr. Mbabazi said that the process will enable the hospital to stimulate integration and management of health services and provide better education and consultation to its patients. “KFH,K has benefited from the accreditation process in the sense that is definitely helping the hospital improve the standards of care and accountability to our patients in our quest for excellence.” Mbabazi noted. She pointed out that the process would also help KFH,K work better in reducing risks associated with injuries and infections as well as establish comparative databases with other international health care organizations that undergo the same process. “The Hospital has been working hard and is fully committed to filling the gaps in order to be fully accredited”. Mbabazi concluded that after the completion of the survey, KFH,K would become among the few hospitals in Africa to attain this level of accreditation. Ends
