Wolves ready to support local football

THE owner of English Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, Stephen Peter Morgan has expressed his interest in supporting local football. Morgan, who is in the country to visit projects that will be implemented by WaterAid told Times Sport yesterday that he is willing to work closely with the local football governing body (Ferwafa) in an effort to develop Rwandan football. “We have discussed ideas on how we can cooperate with Rwanda’s FA and particularly in youth development. We hope to bring some members of Rwanda’s youth teams and coaches to train at Wolverhampton,” he said shortly after paying a courtesy call to President Paul Kagame. “We have also talked on possibilities of taking two or three young players from the national academy to come and work with our people so as to develop their game. We also intend to get some coaches from Rwanda’s FA to Wolverhampton to work with our coaches such that they can learn from the Premier league and I think it would be good if we can send some people over here to work with the local coaches,” he added. The Minister of Sports and Culture Joseph Habineza added that they intend to start an exchange program which will see Wolverhampton Wanderers youth side coming to Rwanda to play with the Junior Wasps next year. Morgan bought Wolverhampton Wanderers from Sir Jack Hayward for a token fee of £10m on condition that he invested £30 million in the Midlands club. The takeover was formally completed on August 9, 2007 when Morgan became Chairman of the club. In May 2009, Wolves were promoted, as champions, from the Championship to the Premier League. Wolves are currently in the relegation zone on 19th position with nine points in 13 matches. Ends
