The monthly inter-clubs athletics competitions gets underway today in Muhanga district in the Southern Province, local athletics federation secretary general has confirmed.Speaking to Times Sport by telephone Appolinaire Munyangoga confirmed that the first edition of 2008 will go as earlier planned. “Everything should go on according to (the original) plan, which means the competition will go ahead as earlier planned,” Munyangoga stated. Initially, the competition had been scheduled for last month but was postponed (to today) because the event coincided with a planned national football league game, which was supposed to be played at the same venue. A total of 18 clubs have lined up for today’s event. Earlier, 26 clubs were expected to take part but other clubs have since pulled out of the event due to unknown reasons.Clubs that have confirmed their participation include; APR, New Athletics Club(NAS), Police, Puma, Gatenga, Kabuga, National University of Rwanda(UNR), Nyamasheke, Muhanga, Ruhango, Kamonyi, Rulindo, Burera, Gicumbi, Rutsiro, Nyabihu, Rusizi and Huye athletics club. According to RAF rules and regulations governing the competition, each contesting club will enter a maximum of three athletes in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m and 10000m. Each club will also enter one team in the 4*100m and 4*400m relays while two athletes from each club will compete in long, high and triple jumps respectively. Ends
