Dear Editor, I was deeply saddened by the story published in The New Times dated January 31 2008 where a child aged one and half years was reportedly defiled by her maternal uncle at their home. Before admitting her to Ruhengeri Hospital where she eventually died, the girl’s sexual organs were oozing with blood. We know too well that it is not good to point fingers at anyone at such a time of an unfortunate act but at the same time, we cannot fail to point out that the parents of the girl were negligent. The child, who has been living with her mother and her grand mother, had been left home with the uncle alone on several occasions. We should learn not to trust female children with any man, even their own relatives because they are only flesh and blood. There is nothing divine about the relationships. In any case, it is these very relatives of ours in whom we put our trust that actually let us down. The heartless criminal even had the audacity to deny the crime as he declared himself impotent. It is said that at the time of arrest, the man looked visibly insane. This should be no justification not to bring this fanatic scoundrel to justice. Nyabugogo
