Kagame tours Bugesera

BUGESERA - President Paul Kagame yesterday visited Bugesera District, where he opened a new market and inspected several development projects. Kagame, who was accompanied by several cabinet ministers, thanked residents of Bugesera for their votes during the recent Presidential elections and called for their support to achieve the targets set for the next seven years. He noted that for the country to progress, the government was required to execute its duties effectively while the people should take a leading role in everything that benefits them. The President emphasized that a lot had been achieved in the past, but that there was still much to do in terms of development. President Kagame made his first stopover in Nyamata Sector where he opened a modern market worth Rwf800m. He said that what makes a market meaningful is the business that is carried out there, otherwise it would remain just an empty structure. He pointed out that it was up to the people to work hard and get products to sell in the market. President Kagame also toured a 2000 hectare cassava plantation and urged the residents to double production, saying that besides fighting hunger, cassava would increase the income of Bugesera residents. He pledged a modern factory to process the cassava, saying it would be up and operational by early next year. Kagame donated 20 Friesian cows to 20 families in Bugesera and called on those who have benefited from the ‘One Cow Per Family’ programme to share the benefits with those whose turn had not yet come, noting that that is a faster way of improving the welfare of the citizens. In line with the policy to eliminate grass-thatched houses, President Kagame also donated iron sheets to families that need to improve their housing. Ends
