Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC) is set to decide on Rudy Cantanhede’s fate after registering as a Burundian for next month’s Alliance Insurance-Kobil Rally of Tanzania. The reigning National Rally Champion who will be navigated by his young brother Bruno Cantanhede participated in last year’s African rally championship with a Rwandan license but is said to have attained a Burundi driving license for the Tanzanian rally that kick-starts the 2008 Africa Rally Championship. According to Christian Gakwaya, an official with Rwanda Automobile club, Cantanhede was issued a Rwandan driving license to take part in both national and regional rallies owing to the fact that Burundi never holds Motorsport rallies. “We are waiting for the return of RAC president (Dismas Kayibanda) who is still abroad to decide on Cantanhede issue,” Gakwaya said. With Cantanhede representing Burundi, no local driver has registered to take part in the two-day Alliance Insurance-Kobil Rally of Tanzania. Meanwhile, Japanese Miyoshi Hideaki and 2006 champion Patrick Emontspool are among 12 foreign drivers who have lined up for the Tanzanian rally. Tanzania will have six drivers competing in the 600km rally. These include Randeep Birdi, Navraj Hans, Anwar Pandya Gamdust Haji, Ben Pulsar, Pritam Gandamal and Hamidu Khan. Ends
