Editor, Please allow me to encourage my fellow Rwandans to embrace the culture of community work, known locally as Umuganda. That is the best way in which each one of us, the old and the young, can equally contribute to our country’s development. It is a form of directly contributing to your country’s development, as opposed to other methods, mostly through use of money. I really enjoy using my hands to make a difference in my community and I wish everyone felt as much I did. If all Rwandans left their homes on every last Saturday of the month to clear those bushes, pave our roads, build houses for the poor, classrooms and other basic infrastructure in our communities, the country would achieve a lot in such a short time. Our state treasury can afford to save some good money if each one of us rolled up their sleeves and made that significant contribution on Umuganda day. I have seen some of the projects that have been accomplished through Umuganda and its really amazing. Come on, Rwandans, lets do it for our beloved country. Epiphanie Mutesi,Kabuga
