MTN donates computers

GISAGARA - After donating to schools in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, telecommunication giants, MTN Rwanda through the MTN foundation, on Thursday donated 36 more computers to Groupe Scolaire St Bernadette in Gisagara district, Southern Province. The foundation which was launched in February this year, will also pay for internet connection for the benefiting schools for a period of one year. Officiating at the function held at the school, Alphonse Byusa, Board Chairman of MTN Foundation, said that the donation is geared towards supporting the government’s programme of promoting the use of ICT in education.He said that the computers offer unlimited learning for teachers and students alike, and urged them to put them to good use. “With these computers you will be able to access learning materials like any other students in the developed world. Put them to good use as you strive to achieve your objectives,” Byusa told students and teachers of the school. Sister Immaculee Mukandoli, the head teacher of St Bernadette thanked MTN Foundation for the donation which she said will supplement the school’s efforts to promote the use of ICT. According to John Bosco Sendahangarwa, the MTN Corporate Communications Manager, all the company’s 21 operations agreed to give one percent of their profits after tax to the MTN Foundation. “This is the money that we use to fund education, health and economic empowerment programmes,” said Sendahangarwa.
