Kigali City Council is soliciting for US$30m (Rwf 17.7bn) for the construction of a central sewage treatment plant which will cater for the city’s three districts of Kicukiro, Gasabo and Nyarugenge. Speaking to The New Times, the council’s Director of Communications, Bruno Rangira confirmed the development.“The plant will be able to handle all sewage waste in the city, and real estate developers will not have to worry because they would subscribe to it cheaply making it easier for them,” Rangira said. “Real estate developers or investors have been using almost 5% of their budget on sewage treatment systems so the plant will serve as a cost effective solution.” The central sewage system plant will be constructed at Giti Kinyoni as soon as funds are available.
