KCC commissions Rwf 7.5bn complex

KIGALI - The construction of Kigali City Council’s headquarters was yesterday commissioned by the Minister of Local Government, James Musoni. The complex in Nyarugenge sector, Nyarugenge District is estimated to cost US$12.9m (Rwf 7.5bn). Addressing the gathering that included KCC officials, UN representatives and city investors, Musoni hailed KCC for the initiative saying it will not only boost the management of KCC financially, but will also improve the quality of their service delivery. “I congratulate you on behalf of the central government for having today officially launched the construction of your office complex and I believe that this will promote governance and service delivery in the city” Musoni said. He added that the building will also promote the performance of KCC employees since they will be working in better offices with enough space and tidy infrastructure.The minister requested KCC to speed up the issuing of plots to both local and international investors who intend to construct commercial buildings in the city saying it will enable the country to achieve sustainable development faster. The Mayor of Kigali city, Dr Aisa Kirabo Kacyira said that the construction work begins this month and will be completed within 18 months.Kirabo revealed that New Century Development Limited, a Chinese company, has been contracted to undertake the task. “The construction of our building is in line with the implementation of the Kigali city master plan,” she said.She revealed that the building will have 53 offices and 13 conference halls whereby the largest will have the capacity to accommodate 300 people. The building will also include a trade point, exhibition centre, a library and a modern restaurant. Ends
