Ndjoli Kayitankole a.k.a Kanyombya is a comedian and a presenter of ‘Abarezi Family’a program of 88.3FM City Radio alongside co-presenter Calipso. Born on November 23, 1962 in Goma (Democratic Republic of Congo), he is a son of the late Jean Baptist Sakumi and Gaudence Mukandutiye in family of seven; he has three brothers and three sisters. “I attended a Primary School in Goma known as Ecole Primaire St. Andre and later joined Tuugane Institute where I majored in Psychology. In 1992 I joined the Rwanda Patriotic Army although I quit in 2002,” Kanyombya narrates. Besides having a good sense of humor, Kanyombya’s physical appearance adds flavor to his comedy because he has no front upper teeth. During the interview, he wrote down every detail of his answers to questions in a notebook—something that seemed funny as he was being recorded. “When I renounced the army profession while in its third phase, I worked for Intersec Security Company but I later gave up on the job and started working as the manager for a South African company dealing in milk products called Loya,” he said. “Although I was an actor while at school, in 2002 I official took up the role of a comedian in various comedy films and some of them include; ‘Ntawumenya aho bwira ageze’ literally meaning ‘one cant predict the future’ and ‘Nyirabayazana’ meaning ‘Troublemaker’, all these where produced by RRP+ Global Found,” Kanyombya explains. After several challenges, Kanyombya started up his own troupe of comedians under a cooperative known as ‘Inyambo Productions’ where he is the President while Emmanuel Kayitaba a.k.a Nyagahene is the Vice President. Although they have produced comedies such as ‘Ntamunoza literally meaning ‘Ungrateful’ and ‘Ihora Ihoze’ meaning, ‘Silent revenge’ the troupe has not yet attained any sponsors to facilitate the production of the comedy films. “We have so far facilitated the first two productions as group members. I also present on ‘Abarezi Family’ show that runs City Radio along side co-presenter Calipso, the program airs on weekdays from 10:00 p.m to mid-day,” he saud adding that, “besides the educative aspect in the program, it’s fully graced with lots of hilarious slots.” With his funny jokes and stunts, this Rwandan comedian said that it didn’t take training in Dance and Drama to become a professional but rather it flows in his blood. “I have never attained any kind of training, everyone in my family is funny therefore it in my blood hence say it’s a talent,” Kanyombya clarified. Kanyombya is married to a beautiful wife and they have two children—a 29 year-old daughter called Sylvie Kibibi and Ivan Kayitankore who is four years old.
