After clinching the volleyball league title last weekend, Rwanda Energy Group (REG) now have their attention turned on the 2023 Heroes Day tournament slated for 28-29 in Kigali. The two-day showpiece will be contested for in both men and women categories. Head coach Pierre Marshal Kwizera told Weekend Sport that his team wants to cement their supremacy in the national men’s volleyball by adding the Heroes Day title to their trophy cabinet. “The players gave their best in the national league and I am very happy for the collective and individual effort they made to accomplish it. All the attention is on the Heroes Day tournament now,” Kwizera said. Organized by Rwanda’s volleyball governing body (FRVB) in partnership with the National Orders and Decorations of Honour (CHENO), the Heroes Day volleyball tournament is among sports events lined up as part of the National Heroes Day celebrations that take place every February 1. REG is one of the four participants selected to take part in the tournament’s men category, alongside Gisagara, APR and Forefront. As per the draw format, the team that finished the league at the top of the table will play the fourth while the second will face the third. They will play semifinals on January 28 and the winners will face off in the final that will take place on January 29. All the games will be held at Kimisagara Gymnasium.
