Eastern Province development partners and legislators, meeting in Rwamagana district, last week, commended the level of economic development in the area. Speaking at the meeting, Senator Prosper Higiro remarked that the level of progress has been uniform in almost all domains compared to any other province in the country. The Senator, however, advised leaders to think of markets for excess production before engaging in the production of particular crops. Dr. Ephraim Kabaija, the provincial governor called upon MPs to give their hand to accelerate agriculture development in their respective areas of origin. “Our economy that relies heavily on agriculture has hit high…we need everybody’s hand in sensitizing people the on application of fertilizers and other modern ways of farming,” he said. MP François Nshunguyinka, said that the trend of success on average, shows how well focused the province is in economic development. He noted with concern the need to develop small scale industries and factories in the province. “The factories of Kamara-banana and meat must continue as planned. Delay of funds should not push us out of focus,” he said. Ends
