Promote financial institutions, youth urged

The Executive Secretary of Rwanda National Youth Council (RNYC), Alphonse Nkuranga, has urged the youth to play a key role in promoting upcoming financial institutions as a way of creating easy access to loans. Nkuranga made the call, Friday, while addressing members and stakeholders of COOJAD - a youth cooperative for self employment and development. “When the youth save, they are promoting financial institutions which will in return give them access to finance or loans to undertake economic projects,” Nkuranga said. “Saving is not only for those with white-collar jobs but for everyone who is capable of keeping a coin.” Dieudonne Nteziyaremye, the vice Chairman of COOJAD in Kigali, observed that among other key measures for the youth to effectively contribute towards national economic development of the country is creating their own jobs. “This cooperative was formed to help the youth, especially university graduates, get access to loans without security but with the help of project proposals,” Nteziyaremye said.COOJAD started operations in 2004 and has 15 branches in eight districts.
