Hima cement launches new product

Following its entry into the Rwanda market, Hima cement factory has unveiled another cement brand, HIMA POWER MAX 42.5, which is suitable for the country’s landscape and infrastructure. Hima Cement has recently increased its capacity with a new plant ‘Rwenzori’ in Kasese, Uganda, worth an investment of $115 million and have a capacity of 850,000 Metric tones per annum The event to launch the high-strength product was held at Serena hotel and attended by investors and officials from the Rwanda Bureau of Standards, among others. The brand, the second manufactured by Hima Cement after Multi-Purpose combines excellent strength of performance with versatility and enhanced durability benefits. HIMA POWERMAX 42.5 is suitable for specialized concrete works that require large concrete pours such as bridges, high-rise structures, dams, reservoirs, massive beams, columns, soil stabilization and foundations. PowerMax, previously manufactured by Hima cement’s sister plant Bamburi in Kenya is characterized by superior workability, high early and 28-day strengths. With PowerMax the occurrence of cracking is significantly reduced since the temperature differential is reduced. Some large projects have been using ice to bring about the cooling effect and reduce the temperature differential. The new cement brand, said to be environment-friendly and one that reduces carbon emissions, is currently available at its plant in Kasese. There are plans to open a depot in order to cater for local customers, according to Jimmy Mugabo, in-charge of exports at Hima Cement Erick Karamuzi, the official who represented Rwanda Bureau of Standards at the launch commended Hima cement for availing the high quality product which will bring about a cost reduction. “This is a good product for development of infrastructure in the country,” Karamuzi observed, urging both product contractors and dealers to be vigilant of counterfeits.
